MDOT taking opinions on railroad upgrades
The Enquirer • August 25, 2010
The Michigan Department of Transportation is now accepting public opinions on what the state’s railway system should look like.
Residents can visit http://tinyurl.com/2aj9fno to tell the state their wishes for high-speed railways. These opinions will be used to help MDOT develop an official railroad plan, a requirement of a 2008 federal law for Michigan to get federal funding for railroad upgrades.
Michigan By Rail, a joint effort of the Michigan Environmental Council and the Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers, also is conducting community forums to gather public input for MDOT. The group stopped in Battle Creek last month and will be in Kalamazoo in November.

The taxpayers in Michigan, whether we reside in urban communities or further south must realize we need the input and the continued help, cooperation and support of Congress to pass the needed bills and when it’s necessary, the emergency funds to get high speed rail and support Amtrak at the same time. Don’t close the barn door shut until all the animals are outside.
