The Traverse City passenger rail line, as examined by the Michigan Land Use Institute in their report, Getting Back On Track: Uncovering the Potential for Trains in Traverse City, would run on state-owned tracks between Traverse City and Williamsburg, that are currently serviced by Great Lakes Central Railroad. It would provide passenger service between Traverse City itself, and the communities east along the Bay through to the Turtle Creek Casino, both a large tourist attraction and local employer. The proposed line would cross: Traverse City, East Bay Township, Acme Township, and Whitewater Township, including the community of Williamsburg.
